Hans-Joachim „Strietzel“ Stuck
Hans-Joachim Stuck is one of the most influential figures in motorsport history and played a key role in the development and success of the BMW M1. As early as the 1970s, “Strietzel” made a name for himself with BMW — whether in the European Touring Car Championship or in endurance racing.
When BMW launched the ambitious M1 project in the mid-1970s, Stuck was not only involved as a test and development driver, but also became a central figure in the spectacular BMW M1 Procar Series. This legendary racing series, held in 1979 and 1980 as part of the Formula 1 program, brought together the world’s best drivers in identical M1 cars.

In 1979, he finished second overall in the BMW M1 Procar Series as the best privateer driver in the UHER M1 from Team Cassani. In 1980, he placed third overall behind winner Nelson Piquet and Alan Jones.
With his tireless dedication to BMW (alongside various other brands, of course) and his unique connection to the M1, Hans-Joachim Stuck wrote an important chapter in motorsport history. His name remains inseparably linked to the M1.
All the more reason we are thrilled that he gave us an interview, which you can watch here. Enjoy!
